How Often Does Your Child Get an Eye Exam?
Regular eye exams are essential to your child’s development and overall health. Kids should have their first exam between the ages of 1 and 3, another between the ages of 3 and 5, and then an exam every year from 5 onwards. We start seeing children at 2 and we’re proud to support many kids with their sight year after year as they grow up.
A child’s vision develops rapidly, and regular exams help us keep a close eye on their vision. Routine eye exams also make it possible to detect issues early and recommend an appropriate solution before they get worse. That can make a meaningful difference in their both learning ability and long-term quality of life.
Our team wants to protect your child’s eye health and their sight with everything from glasses to contacts. Contact us to schedule their first-ever eye exam or their next checkup.

Did you know that 80% of a child’s learning is visual? Clear vision is essential for success in the classroom and beyond. Undetected vision issues, such as difficulty focusing or tracking, can lead to frustration, poor academic performance, and even behavioral challenges.
We’ll take the time to identify and address vision problems that are affecting your child and provide solutions that can help them thrive.

What Is Amblyopia & Strabismus?
Amblyopia, or lazy eye, occurs when one eye doesn’t develop normal vision. It’s often caused by a misalignment of the eyes or a significant difference in prescription between them. Without treatment, the weaker eye’s connection to the brain can fail to develop correctly, leading the eye to drift out of position. While it is rare, amblyopia can occur in both eyes.
Strabismus, or crossed eyes, occurs when the eyes don’t work together to focus on an object. This misalignment can occur constantly or intermittently and, if left untreated, may cause double vision or amblyopia. If your child has either strabismus or amblyopia, we can recommend appropriate treatments and solutions to help them see clearly.
Common Refractive Errors
Refractive errors are vision conditions that make your vision blurry. They are caused by the eye’s inability to focus light correctly onto the retina (the back of the eye). These errors are among the most common reasons children experience vision problems. They can affect how children see near or far objects and may lead to headaches, eye strain, or difficulty focusing in school.
Common refractive errors include myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. By detecting these issues and keeping track of them, we can help your child see clearly with the right glasses and contact lenses.
Myopia
Myopia, or nearsightedness, occurs when the eyeball is too long, or the cornea is too curved. This causes light to focus in front of the retina instead of directly on it, making distant objects appear blurry while nearby objects remain clear. Myopia can worsen as children grow, leading to changes in their prescription over time.
Hyperopia
Hyperopia, or farsightedness, occurs when the eye is too short, or the cornea lacks curvature. This causes light to focus behind the retina, making nearby objects appear blurry, though distance vision may still be clear. Children with hyperopia might struggle with reading or close-up tasks.
Astigmatism
Astigmatism is caused by an irregularly shaped cornea (the lens of the eye), which prevents light from focusing evenly on the retina. This leads to blurry or distorted vision at all distances. Children with astigmatism may experience headaches, eye strain, or squinting.
